Trace Adkins just fishin… When disaster struck : Country Music News

Sometimes a year down the line you look back and remember significant incidents in your life. Trace Adkins has been doing that as he remembers when disaster struck his family when their Home in Brentwood, Tennessee went up in flames. All members of the Adkins household were fine but the house was destroyed.

Trace had been on his flight on the way to Alaska for a fishing trip and a few shows when he several phone calls and text messages. Once he landed his phone was “blowing up” with messages telling him of the tragedy…

Trace’s response to the crisis was to be grateful that everyone was OK, and he says “It wasn’t as traumatic as it could have been… And I think the best thing that came out of the whole thing for me, and it’s an affirmation of something that I already suspected, that I wasn’t that much of a material guy. I’m not a slave to material things. I always kind of thought that, but after that I knew it. I’m not.”

We wish Trace Adkins, his daughters Brianna and Trinity and his wife Rhonda all the best as they rebuild their house and get through this difficult time.

Scotty McCreery American Idol: Country Music News

With all the mixed feelings I have about shows like American Idol there is no
denying the quality acts it, and other reality shows, have introduced into the modern country music scene over the last few years. Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson and of course the young man with the deep country voice Scotty McCreery to name but a few.

Scotty returns to where it all began for him on the American Idol stage to perform both on the Tuesday and the Wednesday. Tuesday will see him sing “Please Remember Me” and on Wednesday he helps to celebrate whoever goes on to win season 11.

Scotty reflects
“I am so excited about going back to American Idol and seeing everyone again,” he says. “I hope to spend some time with the finalists, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, and share some of my experiences with them. I can’t believe that it’s been a year since I was in their shoes.”

Scotty McCreery’s video for “The Trouble With Girls” is also nominated for the CMT Music Awards’ USA Weekend Breakthrough Video Award. The awards will take place June 6 in Nashville.

This blog does what it says on the tin, do you fancy a skype

with Ashton Lane?

One thing we all love about touring, apart from playing music,

is all the hanging around at gigs after the show and chatting,

signing CD’s and getting to know people.

We realize there are loads of you that we have not had

the chance to meet yet, and the 3 of us were discussing what

we could to do to better connect with those that support our music.

The idea is also that we do radio interviews and press interviews sometimes

but in todays world there is nothing to stop us answering your questions

direct. Feel free to think of a few questions for us, or just to get online and

say hi and let us know what’s happening with you.

We are opening up some slots for one to one skypes over the next

few weeks.

Everyone Has A Story To Tell: Ashton Lane One Day

As musicians we are privileged to get regular emails, facebook & twitter messages from music supporters…
One thing that always fascinates me is the stories people share about their lives.
I think music has a way of connecting emotionally and opening us up to what we
are feeling and thinking in a deeper way, and also connecting us with each other.

There was a really interesting feed on our facebook page after a quote I had re-posted
“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.” ~Elizabeth Kubler Ross

This quote had made me think of a story of my own which is what promoted me to post it, just then, folk just started to spontaneously share their stories, some really tragic and heartbreaking. There was instant support and kindness from the other
commenters…

What are the events of our lives, but stories? We all have stories to tell, whether we speak them, sing them, write them, or tell them to a friend over a cup of coffee. Some are inspiring, some are heartbreaking, some heal in the sharing, and some come alive to music…

Music and song-writing for me should be a holistic and connected part of life, family, faith, relationships, friendships and the natural world around us. Reflections of our stories as we live them out day by day.

We will probably all have had experiences of the ways that music weaves itself into the to the very fabric of our lives, like a soundtrack… And the the way that we have at times channeled our stories into creativity to share with others.

Cancer patients make Kelly Clarkson ‘Stronger’ video go viral

Songs have a way of taking on life of their own sometimes. This is one of the most moving and creative things I have seen for a long time.
The patients at Seattles Children’s hospital have made a video of the kids
lip syncing to Kelly Clarkson’s recent single “Stronger”.

Since landing on youtube the clip has gone viral and has now had over a million
views since it’s upload on May 5th. The children and nurses all communicate this song
brilliantly and there is determination in the faces of the children thats amazingly inspiring.

The concept came from one of the older patients Chris Rumble who said he’s a big fan
of Kelly Clarkson and felt the words were perfect for relating to cancer.

Kelly Clarkson shared a special message with the kids at Seattle childrens hospital to in response to the video.

Friday night was another big night for Kip Moore as he performed for the first time on live national Television on “Live With Kelly”.

Kip performs his single with total confidence and ease like its really no big deal.
Glad to see he’s taking all of this so well in his stride.

The broadway adaptation of the life story of Loretta Lynn ‘Coal Miners Daughter’
has recently cast the captivating Zooey Deschanel in the lead role. The broadway show is still in its early planning stages.

Loretta broke the news on Thursday night at the Grand Ole Opry where Lynne and Zooey sang a verses each of ‘Coal Miners Daughter’.

Zooey follows in the footsteps of Sissy Spacek who did an Oscar winning performance in the film adaptation of “Coal Miners Daughter”

Kenny Chesney Tim McGraw Tour – Country Music News

It’s great when bands give you little snippets of the behind the scenes footage before a tour even starts. Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw have just posted a couple of photo’s from recent rehearsals onto their facebook page.

Things seems to be really getting underway prior to them heading out on the road for their upcoming Summer tour ‘Brothers of the Sun’

The gig promises to be high energy party time from both performers who are known for their energetic and entertaining live performances.

Kenny Chesney was quoted as saying

‘It’s not necessarily going to be the kind of show where you would come and buy something to eat and drink and sit down and enjoy the evening. Like always, we try to make it as energetic and as fun couple of hours as possible, and this year’s not going to change.’

World fair trade day is coming up this Saturday 12th of May.
Its a great day to look at what we consume and consider where it
came from, who’s hands made it, and what they were paid.

Like all these things its a journey into awareness and change one step at a time.
I really liked this video from the fair trade foundation. It’s call to reach 1,500,000
steps in 2012. Really good concept, when faced with choices, just take one step at a time towards a fairer world.

One of the suggested steps for Saturday Morning is a ‘Fairtrade breakfast’
to celebrate world fair trade day… Sounds like a plan to me!

It’s a fantastic track, that doesn’t follow not the usual boy meets girl storyline,
but instead deals with the Father Son relationship when boys are going through that
late child, early teens stage and getting into a bit of trouble.

Wanted You More Lady Antebellum: New single! (Country Music News)

Lady Antebellum releases ‘Wanted You More’ as the 4th single from their Grammy winning 3rd album “Own The Night”. The trio Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley started the song while they were on the road.

“One of the added benefits of being out on the road so much is the time it gives us during the day to write,” said Lady A’s Dave Haywood. “The three of us love writing together, but it’s always special when something starts organically with the guys in our band.”

Lady A will also debut “Wanted You More” live on the season finale of NBC’s The Voice tomorrow at 8:00P CT…

Wanted you more, Lady Antebellum, really shows off the trios trademark close harmonies and emotive lyrics. It is a song that debuted high on billboard on the week they released “Own The Night”. Long before it was ever announced as a single. This might have led them to release ‘Wanted You More’. The fan forums have also been buzzing about this song for a good few months and a growing number of voices calling for this to be the next single. Great next choice for them from the wonderful album ‘Own The Night’…

Healthy Soup Recipes : The kitchen was just a kitchen today! Ashton Lane One Day

Feeling a bit poorly with a cold so our regular ‘Kitchen Sessions’ were not live today…
Stopped for some lunch and had a real craving for healthy soup and a vitamin boost! Nothings makes you feel better than some nice homemade soup… Got a few nice healthy soup recipes that I use and wanted to share one of my favorites today!

This tastes amazing and also works as a bit of a detox. The tomatoes are full of vitamin C and the garlic and ginger work as a great liver flush!

Best of all got to share it with my good friend and have a natter (hoarse voice n’all, takes more than a sore throat to stop me talking!)

Food always tastes better sprinkled with good conversation!

Here you go if you want to try it yourself!

Full of Beans Tomato, pepper and coriander soup

Feeds 6-8 (large bowls)

Ingredients

1) 2 red onions / 3 Tbsp of Olive Oil

2) 3 peppers, red, yellow and orange

3) 5 cans of chopped tomatoes

4) vegie bullion (organic) 3 Tbsp

5) 2 cans of mixed salad beans

6) Maldon Salt (season to taste)

7) Coriander (as much or little as you like)

1/2 cup of fresh orange juice (sounds weird but works, trust me!)

9) fresh ginger/ grated/ 1 Tbsp

10) 1 tsp paprika

11) Black pepper (season to taste)

12) 2 cloves of garlic

13) Worcester sauce

Instructions

1) Slice then fry the red onions and garlic for 15 mins in the olive oil in a large pot.

(watch they don’t catch)

2) Chop and add the peppers and fry for another 5 mins

3) Boil the kettle and add 3 tbsp of bullion to 1 litre of boiling water to make

stock

4) Chuck in stock all the other ingredients except for the fresh corriander

salt and pepper into the pot

5) Bring it all to the boil

5) Go do something else for 20-30 mins and let it bubble away on a low- medium heat.

6) Serve a large portion and garnish with fresh corriander, Maldon salt and fresh ground pepper.

Since my teens I’ve always loved trips round charity and retro shops. I find a massive amount of fun and creativity discovering gems from the 1950′s 60′s or 70′s or that just work on me for whatever reason!

I saw this dress in Mr Ben in Glasgow and it was a taylor made silk dress from the 1950′s. The original person it was made for must have been my EXACT size…

For me to find something like this feels like going on a treasure hunt and uncovering chest of jewels!

Into the bargin there’s no guilt about sweatshops, or consumer waste. You are recycling and if you pick up great clothes from Oxfam or Cancer Research you are also giving to charity at the same time! A great way to get your shopping fix with a clear conscience… You have to hunt and piece something together that fits your own individual style. You don’t need a magazine to tell you what looks good, or what’s in or what’s out, it’s about feeling what’s right and then using your own creativity.
